Biosketch

Wael Hakmeh, DO, FACEP, is an emergency physician at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and LECOM. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI (2011). From 2014-2017, Dr. Hakmeh served many vulnerable populations through medical relief in Aleppo, Syria (twice), Greece, and Pakistan. Dr. Hakmeh has won many awards including National DO Student of the Year (2007), Resident Teacher of the Year (2011), Medical Mission Physician of the Year (2016) as well as several health policy internships in Washington DC (American Osteopathic Association, 2005; American College of Emergency Physicians, 2011). He has served as a health policy fellow for Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (2007) and as Vice President of the Emergency Medicine Resident Association of Michigan (2010). He was the co-director of the 20+ Trauma and Critical Care training courses that have been held for physicians working inside war zones in Syria, and has lectured often for the University of Gaziantep Emergency medicine residency program. Dr. Hakmeh was voted Teacher of the Year three of the four years he served as core faculty for the WMed EM residency program. He completed his masters in Healthcare Management from Harvard University and is pursuing a Public Health masters from Johns Hopkins University. His interests include emergency medicine systems development, medical education, mentoring, and barbecue.
